A Cautious Social Media Convert
I’m not an early adopter. I’m still very happy with my iPhone 3G and I won’t be lining up for a 3D television. So you can imagine that I’ve been slow on the uptake with social media. After all, I’m a major gifts person. I’m an advocate of ‘face-to-face’ fundraising. But recent developments in the middle east have got my attention. Twitter, Facebook and YouTube can now officially be called “revolutionary.”
I’m a convert in the making. I have a Facebook page (two years after everyone else) and some of my clients are really doing some innovative things online. But it still seems to me that social media is a tool to get to face to face rather than a substitute for it. And we have to measure the effectiveness of it to make sure it’s working, right?
Metrics for social media fundraising remain elusive, but here is a great list of things to think about from the business point of view that could be translated into fundraising.
And if you want to hear more about how nonprofits can use social media to support all kinds of fundraising, come to the next Front Range Source Workshop on Wednesday, April 12. Our guest presenter, Emily Davis, will walk us through how to integrate social media it into our fundraising plans – and measure it. I’m excited to hear what she has to say…I’ve got lots to learn!
